Crossfit athlete too hot before competitition

The Benefits of Cooling Between Crossfit Workouts

Having just attended the Adaptive Crossfit Games by WheelWOD, and being that the San Antonio weather was a challenging 99º with 80% humidity, it was easy to see why -- and learn how -- our Oro Sports cooling gear could benefit crossfit athletes.

Athletes know that pushing past limits can take a toll on your body, but they also know that busting limits is the whole point. Every competition is a new opportunity to rank a new personal best. In this case, the only way to optimize performance and recovery is to incorporate cooling strategies between workouts and events. And in the case of cooling, Oro Sports cooling gear proved to be the perfect on-demand cooling solution for CrossFit athletes.

Does cooling make a difference?  Let's reverse the question:  does  overheating make a difference?  Damn straight it does.

1. Performance

When you’re engaged in high-intensity training and your body temperature rises, this can lead to fatigue, decreased strength, and impaired cognitive function. By cooling down between workouts, you help regulate your body temperature, allowing for enhanced performance during your next session. Sounds a little like common sense, right?

2. Recovery

Cooling plays a crucial role in recovery. Reducing muscle temperature helps to lower heart rate and decrease the production of lactic acid, which can minimize soreness and promote quicker recovery times. This means you’ll be back in the gym ready to start all over again.

3. Prevention

Prevent overheating, prevent muscle and mental fatigue. Keeping your body temperature in check (known as "Thermoregulation") means your body is running efficiently. Effective training = desired outcomes. Once overheated, your brain can no long send signals to your brain for muscle movement. This can lead to injuries caused from muscle fatigue, but moreso, it can turn heat stress into heat stroke within only minutes.

4. Enhanced Focus and Mental Clarity

The overheated brain simply does not function. It quits sending signals, it sounds the alarm to slow muscle movement, it slows cognition -- basically everything your body needs to perform. Preventing overheating from occurring in the first place is key. Recovery isn't enough! Cooling between events, between workouts, between heats can help maintain mental and physical endurance. Stay fully engaged in both mind and body.
