As Jared Mees announced his retirement from professional flat track racing, I couldn't help but recall the first time we spoke; actually, the first time I ever heard of Jared Mees. At that time, he was "only" the 6X Grand National Champion of American Flat Track. Last month, Jared became the 10X Champion before announcing his retirement. Go big or go home.
Jared will be a tough act to follow, he's just that guy. Charming, likeable, genuine, dedicated, loves his family. A t-shirt circulated during Jared's rise that affectionately said "Anyone But Mees," but he remained unstoppable.
The call that turned us on to Flat Track and Jared Mees came when Jared was looking for ways to keep cool. As I'm inclined to do, I asked him why he was looking for cooling gear, which is when I received my first enthusiastic lesson in American Flat Track. It became the start of what would become our Spring ritual. "Season's starting, Jared, what do you need?" And off we'd go.
It was an honor to be a part of this guy's racing career. While our Spring of '25 won't hold the same allure without Jared, we're grateful for being even a small part of his storied climb and journey. Best of luck in all you do, Champ!
